Anil Diram and Neville Chandrawattie both of whom are currently on remand charged with robbing the Eldorado Trading Company of $93M at Port Kaituma were further remanded when they appeared in court on Friday to face an additional charge of unlawful wounding.
It was alleged that on November 8 at Port Kaituma, 28-year-old Diram, of Lot 52 Blairmont, West Bank Berbice and 29-year-old Chandrawattie, of Essequibo, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Brian “Steven” Deonarine.
They were not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, on behalf of specially appointed prosecutor Glen Hanoman, told the court that on the said date the duo laced Deonarine’s porridge with sleeping pills and upon realising that it did not have the desired effect, allegedly hit the man on the head with the barrel of a shot gun, causing him to sustain injuries and to fall unconscious.
Bail was refused and the duo was remanded until tomorrow when the matter will be called again in Court One.
Diram and Chandrawattie were previously charged, along with several other persons in relation to the robbery at Port Kaituma during which 96 ounces of raw gold valued $22M and $71M, the property of Tamesh Jagmohan, was stolen.
