Mayor was not informed the police band was playing at City Hall

Dear Editor,

It seems clear that this PPP government is unwilling or incapable of playing by time-honoured rules. One can see daily doses of poisonous portions intended to kill all remnants of ethics and decency in Guyana.

City Hall is just one example; the government has found a surrogate of the Ministry of Local Government, a Town Clerk, to suffocate the Georgetown municipality, and in a real sense punish citizens. The appointment of the least qualified and least experienced is a demonstration of the government’s disregard and disrespect for all citizens.

The shameless statements by Messrs Clement Rohee, Ganga Persaud and Norman Whittaker about her qualifications are ludicrous and a tissue of untruths. But the disrespect for the Mayor and Councillors is allowed to continue, and is even demonstrated in seemingly small matters.

On Wednesday December 11, 2013 for the first time in the history of City Hall, the Police Band came to play their usual Xmas music for the staff. Neither the Mayor nor his staff was informed, but the Town Clerk found herself in front of the band, a shameless display of arrogance.  See the front page of Stabroek News of December of 12 – where else could this happen?

The question is when will we put an end to this municipal tyranny and sheer vulgarity? When will this ministry realize that this is the 21st century and follow the example elsewhere of ethics and protocol, or are these concepts alien to our new ministerial masters?  The old folks say,  the longest rope has an end.

Yours faithfully,

Hamilton Green

Mayor
