A landlady found herself before a city magistrate yesterday after being accused of threatening and verbally abusing her tenants.
Nadira Singh, of 155 Garnett Street, Newtown, Kitty, was placed on $10,000 bail yesterday after denying charges that she used threatening and abusive language on Nadira Sukhdeo and that she verbally abused Bibi Fazina Ali.
It was alleged that on November 19, at Garnett Street, Singh issued an oral threat to Sukhdeo. It was also alleged that on December 15, at Garnett Street, Singh verbally degraded Sukhdeo.
It was also alleged that on December 11, at Garnett Street, Singh used abusive language on Ali.
Singh’s lawyer, Yoganand Persaud, told the court that his client and her tenants have been having disagreements for some time now and he even opined that the police were probably fed-up of them.
Persaud asked for minimum bail and with no objection from Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones, Magistrate Ann McLennan, who heard the case at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, granted Singh $10,000 bail and placed her on a bond to keep the peace. The proceedings are due for continuation on January 6, 2014 in Court One.
