Friendship and Queenstown Secondary were booted out of the Chico/Kashif & Shanghai Elite Next Generation Football Tournament following five-nil and six-one defeats against New Silver City and Mackenzie High School on Sunday.
Assisted by a sizable, vocal crowd at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground, the Linden school based outfits took full advantage of their home turf and easily clinched quarterfinal berths at the expense of their overwhelmed opponents.
A double by rampant striker, Tyric McAllister (16th and 33rd minutes) along with goals off the boots of Omalli Webb (34th), Kendolph Lewis (62nd) and David Sanchara (71st) put paid to the hopes of the Friendship team.
Andel Mendonca (20th, 30th), Kellon Primo (72nd, 79th) and Taffon Alexander (75th, 91st) each recorded a brace for Mackenzie High.
Jason Williams scored the consolation goal in the 57th minute for Queenstown.
In the quarterfinal round, New Silver City will face champions of the Digicel Nationwide Tournament Wismar Christian-burg on December 22 while MacKenzie High will lock horns with Leonora Secondary on the same day at MSC.
The under-17 tournament for secondary institutions continues tomorrow at the Den Amstel ground from 14:00hrs.
President’s College will tackle Stewartville Secondary, while Uitvlugt Secondary will take on Annandale Secondary two hours later once the weather permits.
Up to the semifinals, all school aged children will be admitted free to each game.
The winner of the tournament will pocket a record $1.2M in cash of which 75% will go towards a project identified by the school.
They will also receive a trophy and 25 replicas along with the prize money.
The institutions placing second, third and fourth will each receive prize monies amounting to $750,000, $500,000 and $250,000, in cash respectively.
The second and third place teams will receive trophies and 25 silver and bronze medals respectively, while the fourth place team will receive a trophy.
As customary, the grand finale will be staged on January 1 at the Providence National Stadium.
