An accident which occurred yesterday in Moblissa, has left an infant dead and several other persons injured.
The accident reportedly occurred around mid-morning yesterday as they were travelling to Mahdia in a route 72 (Georgetown to Mahdia) bus. The bus is said to have been carrying at least ten persons when one of its tires blew out, causing the driver to lose control.
Stabroek News understands that the bus toppled several times before stopping.
Following the accident, the baby, two-month-old Ryan Anthony, along with the other injured persons, were rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) for treatment.
A source says that Anthony arrived at the Complex in an unconscious state, and doctors there were unable to resuscitate him. While several persons were treated at the Complex and sent away, the driver of the bus, who has only been identified as Roger, and Anthony’s mother were admitted because of the serious nature of their injuries.
Two others, 27-year-old Shannon Munroe of 4th Street Alberttown, and 35-year-old Faye Jones, were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital after receiving initial treatment at the LHC. While Munroe was treated for a fractured left arm, among other injuries, and admitted, Jones was being prepared to go into the theatre for doctors to operate on the fracture she suffered to her left leg. She also suffered other injuries, including abrasions, about her body.
