Kwakwani Secondary were crowned Youth Basketball Guyana’s (YGB) Titan Bowl champions, defeating the University of Guyana 79-54 in Sunday’s final at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue.
Shafeeq Thomas led the Kwakwani assault with 25 points while Domair Gladstone netted 12 points. Leonard Primo
grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds. Joanthan Pooran registered 16 points, six assists and five rebounds in the loss.
In the third place encounter, Linden Technical Institute (LTI) thrashed Bishops’ High School 90-62. Terron Welch registered a double-double of 31 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and five steals in the win.
He was assisted by Dennis Niles who netted 20 points and Vibert Benjamin who contributed a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. Daniel Haynes led the Georgetown side with 26 points and 16 rebounds while Marvin Durant grabbed 20 points and 10 rebounds.
In the earlier matchups, Marian Academy overcame St. Rose’s High School 41-37 to secure the fifth position while the Government Technical Institute (GTI) defeated President’s College 56-41 to claim the seventh position.
In the individual section of the presentation, LTI’s Welch was adjudged the most valuable player while UG’s Pooran and Kwakwani’s Primo were awarded the most assists and best defensive players of the event awards respectively.
