Overnight showers yesterday rendered the two venues for the third day of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Senior Inter-County four-day tournament unplayable following inspections by officials of the GCB.
The third round of two matches among the four participating teams was scheduled to see defending champions Demerara and the GCB President’s XI battle at Uitvlugt while Berbice was down to play Essequibo at Everest Cricket Ground.
However, the venues were deemed unfit for play after the match referees and umpires carried out their inspections of the ground and pitch.
At 14:30hrs the Uitvlugt ground was inspected by officials who made the call to abandon the day’s play while 20 minutes prior to that evaluation officials at the Everest Ground came to a similar decision as well.
With one legitimate day of play left, which is today, organisers and officials are optimistic about having some play but according to sources from the GCB, if factors such as weather and unfit playing conditions come into effect again, they will be forced to abandon the final day and conclude the tournament with the awards ceremony.
Once leeway is given by the weather and venues are playable, action on the last day of play will bowl off at 9:30hrs at the respective grounds.
