Companies involved in offshore oil and gas exploration in Guyana will be conducting a review of related activities in the USA tomorrow, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources.
A statement yesterday from the ministry said that Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Robert M. Persaud and Newell Dennison, Deputy Com-missioner, Guyana Geology and Mines Commission will be attending the review. The meeting will be chaired by Persaud.
The release said that the annual meeting will be attended by representatives of the incumbent and new companies entering the potential oil and gas sector of the Guyana such as Anadarko Guyana Co., Repsol Exploration S.A., Ratio Oil Exploration Ltd., Esso Exploration & Production Guyana Ltd., CGX Energy Inc., Pacific Rubiales and Tullow Oil Plc. Several of these companies have expended large amounts in oil exploration which have yielded dry wells or wells which were promising but could not be further pursued for safety reasons.
Anadarko was recently at the centre of a diplomatic dispute between Guyana and Venezuela after an exploration vessel operating on its behalf was seized in Guyana’s waters by the Venezuelan navy. The boat and crew were subsequently released but the captain was charged.
The release said that following the completion of the offshore wells; Jaguar and Eagle in 2012, companies have moved to renew their interest in Guyana’s offshore quest by submitting new applications for seismic acquisition and marine surveys.
