The Guyana Relief Council continues to assist persons who have suffered losses due to disaster and on Tuesday provided help to East Coast Demerara residents who suffered losses due to high winds.
For the year to date, the GRC has provided assistance to three families, comprising 11 persons who suffered losses due to high winds and 77 families comprising 330 persons who suffered due to fire, a press release said.
The charity’s Welfare Committee also assisted 109 persons (from 47 cases) who are in difficult circumstances. The Shelter Administrator and Welfare Committee have also provided hampers for the Evergreen Nightingale Club and to the Ogle Community Centre Annual Old-Needy Folks Christmas cheer, as is customary. The charity extended gratitude to all those whose generous donations have helped it to fulfil its mandate.
Also, during this period when children are at home, the GRC urged parents and guardians to ensure that they are properly supervised.
The council advises that while it will be closed for the holidays from December 18 to January 6, in case of emergency contact can be made with Andre Wilson on telephone number 223-1568.
