Queen Street sealed their final’s berth defeating Hope Street 3-1 in the battle of Tiger Bay when the semi-final round of the Guinness Greatest of the Streets Georgetown Zone concluded on Tuesday.
Hosted at the National Cultural Centre tarmac on Hadfield Street and Mandela Avenue, Deon Alfred opened the scoring for Queen Street
in a relatively dull opening half with a first time strike into the bottom of the net from the left side of the field.
He would double Queen Street’s lead in the 23rd minute of the second period with a moment of sheer quality. Intercepting the ball in his opponent’s defensive third, Alfred would evade the last defender before striking his effort into the bottom of the net from the left side.
Stephan Moore would pull one back for Hope Street four minutes later with a simple slot home to the back of the goal from just outside the left post after collecting a right sided pass.
However, the result would be put to bed in the 28th minute as Dion Fredericks put the ball to the bottom right hand side of the net from in front the left post.
In the second semi-final fixture, Stevedore Housing Scheme overcame Albouystown B 5-4 on sudden death kicks from the halfway line, following a nil-all score line at the end of normal and extra time.
Stevedore Housing Scheme will now face Queen Street Tiger Bay in the grand finale on Saturday 21st at the National Park Tarmac. The third place playoff will see Albouystown-B facing off with Hope Street Tiger Bay.
In the earlier quarterfinal rounds, Queen Street Tiger Bay led by an Alfred double in the third and 16th minute crushed Berlin Massive 4-0. Completing the score line were goals from Alpha Fletchman and James Meredith in the 18th an 24th minutes respectively.
