Representatives of co-sponsors of the 2013 Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Senior Four-day Inter-County tournament, Hand-In-Hand Insurance and Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company yesterday lauded winners Berbice, and the other participating teams for making the competition a success.
At the post match presentation ceremony held at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Berbice skipper
Sewnarine Chattergoon proudly lifted the winning trophy and a cheque for $100, 000 in recognition of his team’s performance throughout the tournament which they won after ending with 22 points.
They played to a draw against the President’s XI in the first round and completely hammered former champions Demerara in the second before ending the competition by gaining four points against Essequibo in their drawn encounter which ended yesterday.
Former West Indies and Berbice leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo copped the tournament’s Best Bowler Award and tournament MVP award, receiving a trophy and a pair of sneakers for his brilliance with the ball after claiming a total of 25 wickets in the competition.
The runners-up spot was occupied by the President’s XI team which was made of up reserve players from the respective counties. The team sill managed to gel together enough to draw their first match against new champs Berbice, followed by a comprehensive thrashing of Essequibo.
Their skipper, left-arm batsman Vishal ‘Cheesy’ Singh received the award for the tournament’s Best Batsman after scoring 244 runs with two half-centuries and an even hundred against Berbice in the first round. Along with a trophy the President’s XI team received a cheque for $50,000.
At the brief ceremony GCB Secretary Anand Sanasie thanked the sponsors for their support throughout the tournament. He also commended the players and teams for their participation along with their efforts shown.
