Stevedore sends Albouystown B crashing out

Stevedore Housing Scheme punched their ticket to the final upsetting Albouystown B in their semi-final matchup 5-4 on sudden death kicks from the halfway line when the Guinness of the Streets Georgetown Zone continued on Tuesday.

Following a cagey opening period at the National Cultural Centre tarmac on Hadfield Street and Mandela Avenue, Albouystown B’s Roy Cassou fashioned the best chance in the 19th minute as his right footed strike from the right side went narrowly wide of the left post.

With clear cut chances hard to come by, extra time quickly commenced after normal time ended with the score 0-0. The robust nature of the game would continue in the extra time periods as both sides struggled for offensive fluency.

The best chance of the extra time intervals would fall to Albouystown B’s Marlon Nedd in the 35th minute, only for his left sided effort to fly narrowly wide of sneaking into the left side of the net.

With the scoreline unchanged during extra time, the lottery that is the penalty shoot-out was required to decide the outcome. Allotted three kicks per side in the first round of penalties, the resulting score line would be 2-2 as both sides missed once from the mark.

Sudden death kicks from the penalty mark then commenced. However, the outcome would remain undecided as both sides scored on the first try.

With sudden death kicks from the halfway line the last remaining tie breaker, both teams would find the back of the net from the latest distance as the score tallied 4-4 apiece.

However, after three consecutive failures from the distance by both sides, Steven Dolphin would put Stevedore Housing Scheme ahead from the halfway mark as the pressure quickly transferred to the Albouystown B side.

Needing a conversion to force the game into another of round of sudden death kicks, Nedd would strike his attempt on to the left upright as Albouystown came crashing out of the competition.

With the win, Stevedore Housing Scheme will now match skills with Queen Street Tiger Bay who defeated Hope Street Tiger Bay 3-1 in their semi-final match.
