Aniki Jones was yesterday charged with the murder of his fiancé’s ex, who went to his home to confront him with fatal results.
It is alleged that on December 15, at about 19:00 hrs, linesman Carl Garnett went to Jones’ home with a cutlass and proceeded to fire several chops at him.
Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court of Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry that a fight ensued and both men suffered injuries. They were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where Garnett succumbed to his injuries. He said Jones, who admitted to inflicting the injuries, was subsequently charged.
Jones, who was not required to offer a plea to the charge, was remanded until January 14 by the Chief Magistrate.
Garnett, 42, of 229 Thomas Street, Section B South Sophia, had called Jones’ home to speak to his son, who is a child of his previous relationship with Jones’ partner.
However, his attempts were allegedly frustrated by Jones and he subsequently left his Sophia home armed with a cutlass to confront the man.
