Twenty-seven hospitals and health centres on Thursday received brush cutters from the Local Government Ministry as part of a nationwide clean-up exercise.
Representatives from the various hospitals and the REOs from the 10 Administrative Regions along with representatives
from the Cornelia Ida and Ruimveldt youth groups received the machines at a brief ceremony held at the ministry’s Kingston office.
Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Ganga Persaud told the gathering that the equipment was bought with taxpayers’ money, according to a report from the Government Information Agency (GINA). Persaud also handed over a number of books that were written by late former presidents Dr Cheddi Jagan and Janet Jagan for the learning centres in regions eight and nine.
According to GINA, the ministry donated copies of these books to the learning centres in the other regions earlier in the year.
