Machinery Corporation of Guyana Limited (MACORP) has spent over US$450,000 to upgrade its Providence warehouse, making it Guyana’s largest parts inventory in response to customer demand.
Speaking at the launch of the upgraded facility yesterday, the company’s Chief Executive Officer Jorge Medina highlighted the importance of providing good quality equipment to enhance maximum customer satisfaction. Medina also told Stabroek News that plans are in the works to expand operations
in other parts of Guyana. Specifically, he mentioned MACORP’s operations in Bartica. However, these plans are at the embryonic stage.
Parts Manager Asif Sahid said the launch was about enforcing MACORP’s commitment to its customers, in providing better service to them.
“We are not here just to sell parts, we are here to support our customers,” Sahid said. He further stated that providing a work friendly environment was one of the major reasons for the refurbishing of the warehouse. Another factor for the upgrade mentioned, was the increasing demand for parts by customers. “When we started to look at [the feedback], we realised that we don’t have the space… and that we need to invest, modernise our facilities” Sahid stated. He said the warehouse is now one of a kind. With new cabinets and racks for parts, Sahid continued, workers can easily retrieve products. In his words “it has improved” MACORP’s efficiency.
All of the new cabinets and racks, Sahid said, were procured from US companies with good reputation in November of 2012. Sahid further mentioned that the investment is to ensure the quality of products.
The project cost MACORP over US$450,000 and the warehouse, he said, now houses over 10,000 line items worth over US$4 million. Additionally, the upgrade will ensure that products delivered to customers are the same as when they were bought by MACORP. The company provides integrated solutions for customers, equipment sales, rental parts sales, maintenance and services. Items provided include lubricants, filters, hydraulic hoses and ground engaging tools among others. MACORP’s customers are primarily from the mining industry. The process to refurbish the warehouse, according to MACORP’s Marketing Assistant Damien Lewis, began in September 2010 and procurement of racks and cabinets started in 2012. He said the final works were completed yesterday.
