Dear Editor,
I just cannot comprehend the illogicality taking place within the city administration. It is 12.30 pm December 18, 2013 ‒ seven days away from Christmas ‒ and the city is teeming with vehicular and pedestrian traffic, yet City Hall has found it necessary, sensible and logical to park a Hymac excavator on a main thoroughfare like Avenue of the Republic and Robb Street, contributing to an already chaotic situation. An already traffic-congested city is made worse by City Hall. The so-called ‘Mothers and Fathers’ of the city have all long lost their relevance and the current administration at City Hall has outlived its usefulness. Was it ever useful, though?
Where, also, is the logic of not utilising the sunny weather and low water level in the canal to clear this main drainage artery ‒ and others? Are they waiting for the rains to come again and flood the city? Or waiting to place blame at the doorstep of irresponsible citizens and the political administration? Are there really administrators at City Hall? Who are these people and where can we find them? I say, irrevocably that this group must be held fully liable for the stench and chaos in Georgetown.
Never has there been a more appropriate time for the establishment of an Interim Management Committee to replace the City Hall people and bring cleanliness and sanity back to Georgetown.
That time is now ‒ not tomorrow.
Yours faithfully,
Mahadeo Panchu
