After receiving early Christmas and New Year’s monetary gifts from the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) on Wednesday, the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) and the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) have already made plans on how to utilize their funding.
According to GBA head, Steve Ninvalle, the $450,000 which his association received at the holiday social which was held at the residence of GOA president, K.A Juman-Yassin will go towards the expenses of encamping pugilists for tournaments next year.
“For 2014, we have many competitions, at the forefront is the South American Games in Chile so we will be using most of the funds to encamp as much boxers as possible” Ninvalle told Stabroek Sport yesterday.
“We were instructed to use the funds for the development of our young boxers and that is precisely what we will do” Ninvalle added.
President of the AAG, Aubrey Hutson disclosed to this publication that his association received $400,000 and the funds will go directly “for the preparation of our young athletes for the Junior Carifta Championships and the IAAF Junior Championships.
“Undoubtedly the decision will be up to the general council on how we utilize the funds but preparations for those Games will be high on the agenda” said Hutson.
During the holiday social which was held in Lamaha Gardens, 13 other associations received cheques. They were badminton, bodybuilding, cycling, rugby, netball, karate, swimming, weightlifting, taekwondo, table tennis, hockey, squash and volleyball.
