Defending champions Sunburst Camptown defeated Winners Connection 3-0 to book their quarterfinal spot when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA)/Banks Beer Cup continued at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda on Friday.
Veteran marksman and last year’s most valuable player (MVP) Devon Forde opened the scoring for the Campbellville side in the 20th minute of a gritty opening period.
Running onto a through pass, the wily Forde would hold off his defensive marker from within the penalty area, before striking his right-footed attempt into the back of the woodwork.
Forde almost made 2-0 in the 62nd minute as his right-foot volleyed effort from inside the 18-yard area after collecting a right sided cross, was denied by the Winners Connection custodian low to his left.
Camptown would eventually add to their tally in the 74th minute through an own goal following an attempted headed clearance from inside the 18-yard box, that was accidentally directed into the left side of their net.
Jahaal Greaves would complete the score line 16 minutes later, slotting home into the lower right hand corner from the left side of the box, after latching onto a right side cross from Reshawn Sandiford.
The second fixture of the night saw West Demerara giants Den Amstel Porknockers squeaking past East Coast side Mahaica Determinators 2-1 in their round of 16 showdown.
