A 37-year-old Cotton Tree man died in an accident yesterday morning after he had left a wedding party.
Police said that around 3:20am yesterday, Fazal Baksh was riding a motorcycle along the main road at D’Edward Village, WCB, when he lost control of it and collided with a utility pole. He sustained injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Fort Wellington Hospital.
Investigations are in progress.
Baksh, according to his cousin, Inshan Shakoor, left his home at around 10:00pm on Saturday for a wedding party. Shakoor added that he too was at the party and after consuming a few drinks he retired home.
He further stated that when he left the party, Baksh chose to remain. Shakoor said that he was at home around 2:00am when Baksh turned up and informed him that the police had ordered that the music be closed off at the wedding party.
He said that he told Baksh to go home and Baksh left. However, he was not sure whether Baksh was heading home.
The family was informed around 5:00am of his death, according to Shakoor. He said that while police officers were on the scene earlier they had to wait until someone identified Baksh’s body and led officers to his family.
Baksh, a former labourer, is survived by his three children, ages, 13, 9 and 3 years old and other relatives. A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted today and his body will be buried on Saturday.
