A 38-year-old mother of four was found murdered in her home early this morning and her former reputed husband is the prime suspect.
Confirmed dead is Lalita Basdeo of Tuschen New Scheme, East Bank Essequibo.
The man who is now in police custody had been repeatedly warned by police after he had made threats to the woman’s life.
The two had parted ways more than a year ago. She then started a relationship with Salim Ahmad with whom she had been living with at the time of her death.
An emotional Ahmad told Stabroek News that he had left home early for work but decided to return and check on her. When he arrived around 7.30 am he found her in a pool of blood in the bathroom. He said that she had multiple stab wounds and at least one to the neck. She was alive when Ahmad found her but died shortly after.
Neighbours said that the woman was playing music when they heard what sounded like screams.
The suspect was later held by police.
