BK Western Tigers defeated Milerock 3-1 in their round of 16 matchup when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA)/Banks Beer Cup continued on Saturday at the Tucville Community ground.
Centre half Solomon Austin opened the scoring for the West Ruimveldt side with a header in the 42nd minute from a left sided corner kick.
Hubert Pedro would double their lead in the 59th minute through a penalty kick
conversion after being brought down inside the 18-yard box.
Shavez Hendericks would put the game to bed in the 89th minute as he rifled his shot into the back of the net across the body of the goalkeeper after receiving a through pass. Registering a consolation goal one minute later for the Linden side was Clarence Huggins.
Victorious coach, Calvin ‘Fluman’ Allen during an invited comment said: “To be honest it was a good performance for me. Milerock came out and put a lot of pressure on us in the first half. It was difficult to play our passing game and we had to hit them on the counterattack.
“I am quite satisfied with the game. It’s good preparation going into the later stages of the event,” added Allen.
In the second round of 16 matchup on the evening, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) blew away Netrockers by an 8-1 score line.
Desford Williams and Delroy Fraser led the artillery with doubles. Williams registered his brace in the 48th and 51st minutes while Fraser netted his double in the 53rd and 77th minutes.
Further strikes came off the laces of Kennard Simon and Delwyn Fraser in the 73rd and 83rd minutes respectively. Adding to the score line were own goals in the 59th and 90th+2 minutes correspondingly. Scoring for the losers was Omeion Wills in the 65th minute.
