Colts defeated Nets in their first division semi-final 62-53 when the Colts Basketball Club second annual Phillip George Legacy tournament continued on Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue.
Opening a 22-12 lead in the first period, Colts would register 24 points in the second quarter to lead 46-26.
Nets would step up their game in the third quarter as they held the event hosts to a paltry eight points in the period while netting 18 points to reduce the deficit to 10 points at the end of the third quarter which saw them trailing 44-54.
The final period would be a low-scoring affair as both sides failed to register double digit points. Colts were once again held to a meagre eight points while Nets only tallied one point better.
Sheldon Thomas and Dave Causeway led the winners with 12 and 11 points respectively while Drumson McCauley led all scorers with 14 points in a losing effort. In the second semi-final first divisional matchup, Dynas Ravens overcame Pepsi Sonics 65-40. Trailing by two points going into the third quarter after the first and second periods finished 11-13 and 21-23 respectively, Ravens would take the lead as they netted 14 points in the period to Sonics seven points.
With a five point cushion going into the final stanza at 35-30, the Ravens would explode on offence as they netted 30 points in the period while reducing Sonics to 10 points. Dorian Lewis and Akeem Kanhai led the way with 20 and 17 points respectively for the winners.
Trevor Smith netted 13 points for the losers. In the third division semi-finals, Plaisance Guardians edged Colts 68-66 through a combined 45 point effort from Colwyn Nurse and Nduka Horatio. Nurse led all scorers with 24 points while Horatio grabbed 21 points.
Rawle Nelson, Evans Johnson and Vibert Smith led the losers with 17, 15 and 10 points respectively. The second, third-division semi-final saw Trinity Grid Holdings (TGH) Pacesetters overcoming Pepsi Sonics 59-54.
Joslin Crawford led all scorers with 20 points for the winners while Quincy Dos Santos contributed 17 points. Leading the scoring for the Sonics side were Kirwin Jackson and Samuel Thompson with 16 and 14 points respectively.
