Metro Office and Computer Supplies continued its fourth consecutive year of sponsorship of the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) Boxing Day meet yesterday.
During a simple ceremony at the Brickdam office of president of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority, Cecil Kennard, representative of the company, Ariff Baksh on behalf of the Kharag family handed over sponsorship worth $1M which will go to the winning stable of the feature A and Lower event.
Deo Kharag, the patriarch of the Kharag lineage was president of the Bush Lot Turf Club from 1955 to 1978 and his family continues to offer significant support for the ‘Sport of Kings’ and the prize money of $1M is evidence of their commitment.
The annual Boxing Day event has been one of the country’s traditions over the years and this year’s meet is being deemed the ‘biggest’ in recent years.
In excess of $9m in prizes will be up for grabs on the eight-race card.
