Neville Chandrawattie, one of the alleged masterminds of November’s multi-million dollar gold heist in Port Kaituma, was yesterday remanded to prison for involvement in the death of Dharam Chanmangra in 2007.
It is alleged that on Saturday April 21, 2007 Chandrawattie, along with others, planned a robbery during which Dharam Chanmangra was shot and killed. The accused and his alleged accomplices escaped. However, Claymont Williams and Sherwin Henry were charged with Chanmangra’s murder.
Following the November 8, 2013 heist at El Dorado Trading in Port Kaituma of 96 ounces of gold and cash totalling $93M, Chandrawattie was questioned and he allegedly admitted to planning the robbery of the same company in 2007. He was then charged.
Chandrawattie was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry over the indictable charge and will return to court on February 3 at the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate Court.
