Fifteen non-violent prisoners from the various prisons in Guyana were released on Monday 16th December, 2013 in time to spend the Christmas holidays with their families and friends after Food for the Poor paid their fines.
A release from Food for the Poor said that the prisoners were confined to prison because of their inability to pay the requisite fines even though the amounts in some instances were very small.
The programme started in 2005 and takes place yearly in time for Easter and Christmas.
