The Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) grand horse meet which was scheduled to run off yesterday at the club’s track at Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice has been postponed.
According to organisers of the annual Boxing Day event, the meet was pushed back because of the soggy state of the track due to inclement weather.
January 19 is being proposed as the new date to host the event at the same venue once the weather is favourable.
The fixture has been one of the country’s traditions over the years and this year’s meet was touted as the ‘biggest’ in recent years.
When the event is eventually staged, in excess of $9m in stakes and prizes will be up for grabs on the eight-race card.
The feature A and Lower, One mile event will see the top steed owner pocketing $1.5M.
