The bridge on the Lethem trail which collapsed last week, virtually bringing the community to a standstill, has been repaired.
Minister of Public Works Robeson Benn told Stabroek News that by yesterday afternoon all works should have been completed but that all vehicles were already passing freely.
After the bridge collapsed, trucks taking fuel to Lethem were stalled and the Lethem Power Company had been forced to source fuel from neighbouring Brazil.
Benn said the fuel trucks have been able to make it to Lethem to deliver their cargo to the Lethem Power Company.
The bridge, located some 20 miles from Kurupukari at an area referred to by commuters as Frenchman’s Turn, disintegrated after its foundation washed away last week, Benn had told Stabroek News.
Initially, some light vehicles were able to safely negotiate the crossing and pedestrians were also able to walk across.
