Chairman of the national selectors of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Rayon Griffith said yesterday that today’s fitness sessions to be held at the Guyana National Stadium will be used as a stepping-stone towards getting the players primed and ready for next month’s Regional tournament.
Speaking with Stabroek Sports on the eve of the first day of fitness training, Griffith said that over the next three days they will carefully assess the condition of the players from both the physical and mental perspective.
Today’s sessions will focus primarily on the physical aspect of the players conditioning and is expected to get underway with a beep test followed by other fitness regimes which will test and evaluate the cricketers’ condition.
Apart from the cardiovascular areas, days two and three will be used to give the cricketers an opportunity to spend some time in the middle and apply themselves in the respective areas such as batting and bowling which will further aid in getting the players prepared.
“We will be looking to assess the physical condition of the players and also to put them on the cricket foot early and get them in the zone,” Griffith declared.
He also hinted that he was looking forward to working with national coach and former Guyana all-rounder Esaun Crandon over the next three days.
Griffith said that if the weather interferes with the drills today, the players will move to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH). All three sessions are expected to commence at 9:00hrs.
