Nine time Grammy award winner John Legend is set to headline next Saturday’s Night of Love Concert, an event organised by McNeal Enterprises in collaboration with Hits and Jams Entertainment at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
The highly anticipated show will also see performances by Caribbean reggae icon, Beres Hammond and Chutney sensation, KI & JMC 3Veni.
In live telephone interviews a few weeks ago at the HJ Studios in Georgetown, the legends spoke with Hits and Jams presenters Gordon Moseley, Kerwin Bollers and Rawle Ferguson.
John Legend promised that the Guyanese audience can expect an event that will be “sexy and soulful with me on the piano.” He highlighted that his concert will be interactive as spectators will be key parts of his performance. “It will be a beautiful night, there is going to be some love music and everybody’s going to come down and get ready to have a good time,” he said.
“All Of Me” is a definite at this concert, it has been hitting the charts since its release in August 2013. Amongst the many hits from his fourth studio album ‘Love in the Future’ it is his favourite song. Legend, now a married man, put it out there that “there will be looking but no touching” since he is “off the market.” This is sure to disappoint some women but as Legend stated in the interview Guyana has some beautiful women, which means he too will have to control himself.
He ended the interview by saying he is so excited to be coming to Guyana for the first time. “We’re going to have a great time, great show – you don’t want to miss it,” he remarked.
Beres Hammond in his interview expressed that the people of Guyana are like his family, taking into account that he has been to the country more than seven times. His music runs right back to family values and love and it is an experience he is always ready to share with his Guyanese family. He shared: “The love that the Guyanese people give me, I mean who as an artiste can ask for more?”
“Fight This Feeling”, a collaborative piece shared with fellow Jamaican artiste Shaggy is sure to be sung at this concert. Hammond noted that this show will basically be an “extension” of what he already does but he will be sure to “mix it up” at this performance since he cannot sing all of his songs at this one show.
The reggae icon expressed that he is very happy to be a part of the show and to be on a stage with John Legend.
“I think having [been] blessed to be a part of such a wonderful movement, reggae music. I want to give it up to all the folks before me who paved the way for a person like me to have shown such wonderful love and respect, I’m just happy that I’m a part of it,” he said in the interview.
