A police team has been dispatched to Cuyuni, Region Seven to investigate the apparent murders of three miners.
The bodies of a Brazilian couple were found in a decomposed state tied up at Sandhills, Region Seven after they had left their mining camp at Puruni bound for Bartica.
President of the Guyana Brazilian Association, Antonio Szala told Stabroek News yesterday that the couple has been identified as Edlene and Peaui but that their surnames are to be clarified.
He said that the two worked in the Puruni and were on their way to Bartica when they were apparently robbed of the gold they were carrying and subsequently killed.
Also, he said that the family of another Brazilian miner Antonio Silva reported to the agency that he was robbed and killed on Saturday night at his camp in Iyamu in the Puruni River.
In a press release the police stated that they had dispatched a team to Sandhills following a report that the decomposed bodies of a man and woman were found tied up there.
