Carlton Akeem Bourne, of Liverpool, Corentyne, Berbice was charged with the murder of a shopkeeper on Thursday last after having been in hiding for approximately one year.
Bourne, appeared before presiding Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Albion Magistrate’s Court where his charge was read to him. He was not required to plead and was remanded to prison until January 6th 2014. His next appearance will be at the Whim Magistrate Court.
Bourne is accused of murdering Winston ‘Tony’ Ragnauth of Lot 2 North Whim Public Road on the 7th of November 2012.
Fifty six year old Ragnauth was found with his throat slit lying in a pool of blood at Ragnauth’s Grocery & Liquor Store.
On July 8th 2012 police had issued a warrant for Bourne’s arrest.
Bourne was captured by lawmen in Agricola, Demerara, and handed over to investigators in ‘B’ Division.
Ragnauth’s wife Zira Ragnauth had said that the family was relieved at the arrest and “would have to wait and see” if justice would be served.
Additionally, an ex-lawman, Elton Haynes of Manchester Village, Corentyne, Berbice was also charged in connection with the murder. He is, however, serving time in prison for escaping from lawful custody.
