Residents of Plaisance say they are yet to be contacted by E-Governance Project coordinators on the selection of an alternative site for the signal tower initially intended for the Plaisance Community Centre Ground.
The last interaction between the project’s coordinators and concerned Plaisance residents took the form of a meeting which was held on April 26th.
During the meeting Ramotar, who tried to explain the importance of placing the signal-tower in the Plaisance Community Centre Ground, encountered resistance. Residents maintained the opposing posture which they adopted since they learned of the intentions to erect the tower in the Community Centre Ground.
As one resident put it, “I just want to make sure that they understand it aint going deh.”
By the end of the meeting Project’s Director Alexi Ramotar abandoned his attempts to convince the residents and agreed to work with community members to select an alternative site within Plaisance.
In spite of this commitment, former People’s National Congress (PNC) MP and resident of Plaisance, Aubrey Norton informed Stabroek News that neither Ramotar nor any other representative of the Project has contacted the community.
Norton said that Ramotar himself had been provided with the contact information for the community’s selected liaison who has indicated that he has not yet been contacted on the matter of the selection of an alternative site for the signal-tower intended for Plaisance.
When contacted by Stabroek News, Ramotar stated that he was not going to pronounce on whether or not he has attempted to meet with Plaisance residents. He further stated that he would not be commenting on any questions related to the placement of the signal-tower intended for the community of Plaisance.
Meanwhile, towers intended for Beterverwagting (BV), Lusignan, and La Bonne Intention (LBI), have already been erected. A visit to the tower site at Lusignan saw workers tightening the already erected structures.
