Police say that the suspect in the murder of Carlissa Matthews was arrested at about 0800h. today at Springlands, Corentyne.
He is in police custody assisting with the investigations. Matthews was shot and killed in Water Street, Georgetown, on December 31, 2013.
The suspect has been identified as Jermaine Maynard. He had had a previous court matter with Matthews.
On October 29, 2013, Magistrate Judy Latchman dismissed the case against Matthews who was accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm on her spouse, Maynard after the man declined to give evidence in the matter.
Matthews was charged with unlawfully inflicting grievous bodily harm on Maynard on October 26 at Croal Street, Georgetown. A report was made at the Stabroek police outpost, and the woman was arrested and charged.
Her attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat told the court that the accused and the virtual complainant had been living together. He had also told the court that “the man usually beats [her], so she decided to beat him.”
When called to the witness stand, Maynard, with his left arm in a sling, declined to testify against his wife, resulting in the case being dismissed.
