North East La Penitence trounced Den Amstel by a 4-1 scoreline in the final of the Mayor’s 79th birthday anniversary seven-a-side Inter-Ward football tournament on Sunday at the Den Amstel Community ground.
Andrew Murray Jr., opened the scoring for the visitors with a strike in the very first minute of the match. Hubert Pedro would double his side’s advantage as he found the back of the net in the second minute.
Delon Lanferman would pull one back for the home side as he etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the eight minute. Murray Jr. would restore
North East La Penitence’s two goal lead, completing his double with an effort in the 10th minute.
The encounter would be sealed one minute later as mercurial forward Devon Millington netted. For their win, the Georgetown side walked away with the championship trophy, $100,000 and gift hampers donated by Ricks and Sari Agro Industries.
Den Amstel for their efforts received the $50,000, the second place trophy and hampers from the aforementioned establishment. In the earlier 90 minute exhibition encounter, the Mayors All-stars juniors crushed West Demerara outfit Young Achievers by a 3-0 score.
Jamal Harvey opened the scoring for the winners while Domini Garnett sealed the win compliments of a second half double.
