A man accused of assaulting his pregnant partner was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, despite requests from the woman to have the matter dismissed.
Thirty-two-year-old Renshan Munroe was charged with assaulting Latoya Hinds at his lot 6 Public Road, Mc Doom home. The man pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him by Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty.
Hinds, when given an opportunity to speak, requested that the case be dismissed.
However, Prosecutor Seon Blackman noted that the defendant and Hinds had appeared multiple times in court before. The pregnant woman, he continued, would always offer no evidence in the matters.
When Magistrate Mc Gusty enquired whether Munroe had been placed on a bond, Blackman responded in the negative. Despite Hinds’ request, the matter was continued.
Blackman objected to bail based on the frequency with which the two appeared before the courts. He also noted that, in her statement, Hinds had stated that Munroe had cuffed her to the abdomen.
As the case progressed, Hinds mentioned that Munroe was the provider of the home. The defendant said that though he is currently unemployed, he is set to begin work on Monday.
Munroe was remanded to prison until Monday, January 6 when he is to make his next appearance.
