Lindener Murtland Lawson who smashed a door at Republic Bank was yesterday handed an 18-month jail sentence when he appeared at the Georgetown Magis-trates’ Courts.
On December 29 last at the Republic Bank branch in Mackenzie, Linden, Lawson smashed a door valued $94,000 with a cutlass, the court was told. The matter was reported and Lawson was arrested and charged.
Lawson accepted the charge, but told Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty that the bank owed his father money and had refused to pay. For that reason, he said, he smashed the door.
Lawson was mumbling in the courtroom and when Magistrate Mc Gusty asked him to speak up, he told her that he was retarded and needed a mental evaluation. Magistrate Mc Gusty subsequently sentenced him.
