A 17-year-old from Agricola was remanded to prison yesterday for allegedly holding up a family on Old Year’s Day at Back Street, Mc Doom.
It was alleged that on December 31, 2013, at Back Street, Mc Doom, Junior Dunn also known as Michael Dunn along with others and armed with a gun, robbed Margaret Greaves of a gold and diamond ring valued $120,000 and a T-Mobile cellphone valued at $35,000, a total value of $155,000. It was further alleged that he robbed Alicia Christian of one BlackBerry phone valued $35,000. Additionally, he was accused of stealing one silver band valued at $30,000 from Simone Smith.
Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman told the court that the teen in the company of others entered the home at Back Street, Mc Doom on December 31 and held the family at gunpoint.
Blackman said that the teen and the others pulled out a gun and a knife, then took away the articles mentioned. After the robbery, Blackman continued, the family raised an alarm that saw the teen being apprehended in the yard and taken into police custody.
The accused denied all three charges and told Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty that he was at his Agricola home (15 minutes away) at the time of the robbery.
He further stated that he was in front of his yard when a man approached him and led him to the back dam, where he was chopped in his head, slashed with a broken bottle in his hands and dealt lashes. After the alleged assault, he said the man stole $46,000, a cellphone, a ring and a chain from him before firing a gunshot in the air and escaping.
Magistrate Mc Gusty later remanded the teen to prison and adjourned the case for January 23.
