Three persons were yesterday injured in an early morning shooting at the Ghetto Flex Bar at James and Albouys streets, Albouystown.
Police said in a press release that around 01:45 hrs Andy Bharrat, 39, of Albouys Street, Albouystown, became involved in an argument with a group of men at the Ghetto Flex Bar at James and Albouys streets.
During the argument, the men pulled out firearms and discharged several rounds that resulted in Bharrat being injured to his back. Bharrat was being treated at the Woodlands Hospital yesterday and Stabroek News was unable to speak to him.
Nikita Glasgow, 28, of 687 East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme and Courtney Sandy, 28, of Light and Charlotte streets, George-town, were struck to their left feet. They were both taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
When Stabroek News visited the scene of the shooting, the bar was closed and residents in the area were tightlipped about what had transpired.
Glasgow, speaking from her hospital bed yesterday, said she was in the bar with several friends when she was shot by an unknown person.
She was uncertain what might have caused the shooting. “All I hear was the bullets start fly. I don’t know whether is a fight or wha,” she said adding that she sustained injuries to her left leg. She said she was rushed to the hospital by the father of her child.
Sandy, who was shot to his left leg said his decision to go to the bar was a spur-of-the-moment one and it was while he was at the bar buying a drink that several shots rang out.
He said this was sometime around 01:30 am and immediately, the bar went into an upheaval as all of the patrons tried to leave via the same small exit in an attempt to escape the shots.
Sandy said that he had not seen the shooter as his main concern was getting out of the bar unharmed.
He recounted that as he was making his escape he felt his left leg go numb and he collapsed shortly after.
He added that he arrived at the hospital shortly after 2 am but did not receive medical attention until six hours later.
