Armed bandits once again struck at the Western Union located at the Harbour Bridge Mall on the East Bank Demerara carting off an undisclosed sum of money.
A source said that the robbery occurred shortly before 16:00 hrs. Three men stormed the business and forced staff members and customers on the floor before relieving them of their valuables. The men had reportedly joined the line under the guise of conducting business. The source said that they then made their escape through a gate located at the back of the mall.
This is the second time the branch has been hit by bandits in less than a month. In December, three men pretending to be customers went into the business place and then pulled out their weapons and ordered the 20-25 persons there to lie face down on the floor. The customers were stripped of their valuables including cash, phones and jewellery. One person was taken into custody that time.
