Gillian Thompson was a wonderful person to know

Dear Editor,

It is with extreme sadness that I learnt of the death of Ms Gillian Thompson, Chief Librarian of the National Library.

As a past member of the Board of the National Library for a number of years, I had the honour to know Ms Thompson, being active at the point when she was identified to serve as Chief Librarian. Ms Thompson was of a friendly disposition, soft spoken and extremely dedicated to her vocation, justifying the confidence placed in her to manage the library.

In my past capacity as Head (ag) of the Learning Resources Development Unit of NCERD, I had to seek her input on occasion in relation to providing appropriate technical support for school libraries in Guyana and the training of teachers functioning as librarians in the school context. She was most helpful in identifying facilitators and offering back-up support when necessary.

Although our level of interaction has been minimized since I left the employment continuum, I will really miss her; in my opinion she was a wonderful person to know.

Yours faithfully,

Krishna Nand Prasad
