Property owners are being encouraged to ensure to pay up their rates at the Mayor & City Council (M&CC) and are also reminded that it is their civic obligation to the city.
A release from the M&CC noted that the payment of rates is vital to the provision of core municipal services such as drainage, garbage collection and disposal, roads, street lighting, public health and environmental services, markets, enforcement of the city’s building code and maternal and child care. The release stated that the municipality needs every cent to perform those services that would secure the safety of citizens.
According to the release the rates due in respect of a general rate are payable in four equal instalments and become due on February 1, or on the day of service of the demand note, whichever day is later; April 1 and October 1, annually.
