The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) yesterday threw additional support behind their current coaching staff by securing the services of Guyana Defence Force (GDF) fitness trainers Patrick King and Carl Stephenson to aid in the fitness camp of the national cricket squad.
The two certified fitness trainers joined current coaches GCB Chairman of Selectors Rayon Griffith, former national all-rounder and current coach Esaun Crandon and former youth cricketer Julian Moore yesterday as the players went through their paces at the Everest Cricket Ground in an effort to ensure that the players are fit and ready for the upcoming West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional 50 over and Four-day competitions.
The national squad has been undergoing sessions with the expectation that the players will achieve a certain level of fitness. The addition of these two specialist trainers is specifically to ensure that the players attain and maintain that required standard of fitness.
Meanwhile, secretary of the GCB, Anand Sanasie, who was present at the Everest Cricket Club Ground yesterday, in an invited comment stated that the GCB is investing in quality preparation and it would be up to the squad selected and their management team to deliver positive results. He further stated that the feedback from the coaching staff so far has been good and it is expected that the team should perform well.
The national team is scheduled to play six practice matches; two of those being day/night at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence before departing for the Regional competition which will be broadcast live on ESPN throughout the world.
The WICB Nagico limited overs leg of the competition will commence on January 30 in Trinidad and Tobago.
