Two brothers, one accused of stealing fake eyelashes and the other a toy gun, were each granted $30,000 bail yesterday.
Eighteen-year-old Keiron Douglas and his older brother, twenty-one-year-old Joel Douglas, both of 160 Lot E Farmer’s Plot, Sophia, were charged with stealing a number of items, including fake eyelashes, naphthalene balls (moth balls) and a toy gun when they appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts complex.
The younger Douglas pleaded not guilty when the charge of simple larceny was read to him. It is alleged that on January 4, in Georgetown, he stole three sunshades, a desk lamp, and a pair of eyelashes. The total value of the items, which were the property of Toolsie Sahadeo, was reported as $1,900.
Joel Douglas also pleaded not guilty to the charge against him, which stated that on January 4, in Georgetown, he stole three sunshades, two packets of moth balls, a torchlight and a toy gun, valued at $2,000 in total.
The brothers were represented by attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat, who asked for reasonable bail for his clients. Fung-a -Fat stated that nothing was found on them and he added that one of his clients had been wearing a pair of sunshades that belonged to him. However, Sahadeo was claiming the worn accessory was stolen.
The brothers, both labourers, were subsequently granted bail by Magistrate Latchman and their next court date was fixed for January 15, when the proceedings would continue in Court 10.
