Customs officials yesterday descended on several businesses in the Orange Walk area and confiscated a quantity of beverages from at least two liquor shops.
Stabroek News understands that several policemen and the officials entered the businesses enquiring about business licences and registration.
One young woman said that shortly before 3pm, an officer came into the boutique where she works asking about their business licence. “An officer came and he was asking about the licence and then he ask about the registration and I told him that I am just working here and he has to wait for my boss to come to give it to him.”
According to the woman, the officers and officials proceeded to the liquor shops in the area. “They go over by Sweet Point and the shop next to them and next thing I see they go away with all of their liquor, like they ain’t had licence to sell the liquor”, she said.
When Stabroek News visited the area yesterday, Sweet Point was still open for business, but the shop next to it that was raided was shut tight.
