Please allow me space in your newspaper to offer congrats to the President and members of the Bush Lot Rising Star Cricket Club for hosting their first ever Christmas holiday outreach programme. The Stabroek News edition of Saturday, January 4 was quite a pleasant surprise for me as for years in my capacity as Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club I have been urging other cricket clubs in Berbice to join the effort to make positive differences in the lives of the less fortunate and the elderly.
Mr Rabindranauth Saywack and his boys of the Bush Lot Rising Star Cricket Club must be congratulated for a job well done and for making positive differences in the lives of the elderly and of less fortunate children. There is no better feeling in the world than watching the smiles that appear on faces when you touch their lives and there is no better satisfaction than hearing them say “Thank you and May God bless you.” I strongly believe that no matter how poor you are, there is always someone poorer than you and those who are in a position to make a positive difference must accept the challenge to do so.
Every cricket club in Guyana and sports organisation should follow the example of Mr Saywack and the Bush Lot Rising Star Cricket Club and teach their young members to be ambassadors of hope and goodwill. We not only teach them to play cricket and the other sports, but we must teach them also the importance of education and to avoid drugs at all costs.
The most important mission of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club is to teach our youths to feed the poor, clothe the naked, to bring love to the lonely and to offer hope where there is none. Any youth that develops these traits would be an asset to society and would be a proper role model and ambassador for the sports they are in. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club has been very successful because we strongly believe in the old saying, “The more you give, the more you would be blessed,” and we are confident that the same would happen to Mr Saywack and his club.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and I would be willing to work along with them to make their charity programmes more successful and at the same time would like to encourage others to get off the bench and make positive differences in the lives of those who need it the most. Too many people in Guyana are in a position to assist but rather sit back, criticise the efforts of others and yet do nothing. Our country needs more like the Bush Lot Rising Star Cricket Club.
