International Boxing Association (AIBA) certified referee/judge; James Beckles is scheduled to arrive in Guyana today to conduct a five-day workshop from tomorrow geared towards improving the standard of refereeing and judging locally.
The workshop, which concludes on Sunday, will be held at the Guyana Olympic
Association (GOA) building from 10:00hrs to 14:00hrs.
According to president of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle, the Trinidadian who will be in Guyana on his third stint… “will be giving lectures on the use of the electronic scoring system that we received from AIBA while at the World Boxing Championships in Kazakstan last October among other things.”
Ninvalle added:“It is important that he is here since AIBA has made many rule changes, the aim of his visit is to raise the standard of refereeing and judging in Guyana and we intend to have in excess of 20 participants at the work shop.”
Registration for the daily workshops starts at 09:00hrs.
Ninvalle also thanked Director of Sport, Neil Kumar for making Beckles’ six-day sojourn possible.
Beckles is scheduled to return to Trinidad and Tobago next Monday.
