The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 48th anniversary rugby tournament which was scheduled to kick off in November but was postponed due to the inclement weather will now be played tomorrow at the Camp Ayanganna Playfield.
The sevens tournament will see the all the clubs affiliated to the union (Caribs, Hornets, UG Wolves and GDF) vying for the champion’s trophy.
According to vice president of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), Captain Earl Edghill, the games will be played under floodlights, the first ever such event.
“Come out and see the game and what it looks like under floodlights,” said Edghill.
“The games should be exciting we are fielding all the teams in the union and the players are hyped and training.”
The objective of the competition is to get the competitive juices of the players flowing again.
The ruggers of the GDF team are currently on a tear, having captured all the three sevens championships for 2013, defeating UG Wolves and Hornets RFC respectively with Caribs failing to make any of the finals.
The women’s national ruggers will be on show also as the GRFU continues to push for the development of female rugby.
