BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC- Two of the top players in the three recent trial matches have been left out of the Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) 14-man squad for the 2014 WICB NAGICO Super50 championship in Trinidad & Tobago starting month end.
Selectors did not include batsman Kyle Hope, who made 123 runs without being dismissed in all three matches.
There was no room as well for fellow Barbadian, left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican, who took seven wickets for 50 runs off 25.2 overs including seven maidens, at an average of 7.14 and a miserly economy rate of 1.97.
A Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) release says based on the selection, a quotasystem seems to be in operation.
Six Barbadians, including veteran player/ coach Floyd Reifer, have been included in the CCC 14-man squad for the January 28 to February 16 event.
Apart from Reifer, a 41-year-old former West Indies captain and left-hand middle order batsman, the other Barbadians are his cousin, Raymon Reifer, an all-rounder, who bats left-hand and bowls left-arm medium-pace; left-hand opening batsman Anthony Alleyne, top order batsman and former captain Kyle Corbin, all-rounder Kyle Mayers, a left-hand batsman and right-arm medium-pacer and experienced off-spinner Ryan Austin.
The squad will be captained for the first time by Guyanese all-rounder Steven Jacobs, a middle order batsman, who bowls off-breaks.
There are four Jamaicans in wicket-keeper/batsman Chadwick Walton, the current West Indies One-Day International and Twenty20 player, attacking opening batsman Shacaya Thomas, leg-spinner Akeem Dewar and all-rounder Wayne Morgan, who bowls medium-fast.
Two players from the Windward Islands have been include – Dominican all-rounder Kavem Hodge, a left-arm spinner and right-hand batsman, and Vincentian pacer Kesrick Williams – with left-arm spinner Kristopher Ramsaran of Trinidad & Tobago completing the squad.
CCC finished second in last year’s Super50 championship, which was won by Windward Islands.
