Two main pumps in Georgetown are not working plus at least one of the sluices along the Demerara River in the city is non-functional and the others are not working at 100 percent, compounding the drainage problems after the recent heavy rainfall.
A statement from the Ministry of Agriculture yesterday, giving a weather update said had they been working to complement the main drainage structures along the city, drainage would have been more rapid.
It advised that residents, especially those living in low-lying areas, should take all precautionary measures as cloudy spells with possible thunderstorms were expected
