Police on the East Coast are investigating two separate deaths including one where an intruder was killed at Annandale. Neither of the two men has been identified as yet.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud when contacted said that the first killing occurred around 23:15 hours yesterday. He said that a man was found dead in Dochfour near the public road. A resident, he said, related to investigators that he had been aroused by a noise and when he looked out he saw two men arguing on the roadway. Shortly after, one was lashed and fell to the ground.
According to Persaud, the deceased smelt of alcohol.
The second incident, Persaud said occurred around 2 am today at the Church Street, Annandale home of Ishwar Jeffrey during which an intruder was shot dead while his two accomplices managed to escape.
Persaud said that the businessman was awakened by a noise and when he looked out he saw two men in the yard. He woke up his son who is a rural constable. Persaud said that the rural constable armed himself with a gun and when he proceeded to the lower flat he was confronted by a man and there was an exchange of gunfire but neither man was hit.
Persaud said that the intruder then locked himself in a nearby room and when he re-emerged he was shot in the hip and died. The accomplices in the yard ran away, dropping a bag and a weapon. A gun was also found in possession of the dead bandit.
The police today issued the following release on the Annandale incident.
At about 0200h. today Friday January 17, 2014, businessman Ishwar Jeffrey, 49 years, of Annandale North, ECD, was aroused by the barking of his dogs.
He awoke his son Mananno Jeffrey, 31 years, who is a Rural Constable and a member of the Annandale North Community Policing Group and who is licensed to use the Policing Group’s firearm.
Mananno Jeffrey armed himself with the firearm and on checking was confronted by three men in the building.
One of the men discharged a round at Mananno Jeffrey who returned fire, fatally wounding the man. The other two men managed to escape.
A.38 revolver with three rounds and a spent shell was recovered in the house and another .38 revolver was recovered outside.
Investigations are in progress.
